Grand-Am Cup
The Great American Road Racing Association Grand-Am Cup Series is the premier proving ground for leading auto manufacturers. Production cars go head-to-head to find out who's the best. World-class racers compete for speed, performance and handling using straight-off-the-showroom floor cars. Road racing allows only minimal safety and performance modifications from the cars you drive home off the dealer lot.
Two classes - Grand Sport (GS) and Sport Touring (ST) - compete on the same track for victories within their class and overall. The Grand Sport class consists of sport cars like the Porsche 996, the Ford Mustang, the BMW M3 and the Nissan 350Z. Sport Touring class races small to mid-sized four-door sedans and sport coupes like the Mini Cooper, the Acura RSX, the BMW Z4 and 328, the Porsche Boxster and the Mazda RX-8.
SCCA and BMW CCA National Tour
The Sports Car Club of America, or SCCA, pushed the exciting action of Road Racing into the professional competition it is today. SCCA retains active membership for 60,000, hosting more than 2,000 amateur and professional motor sports events a year. The SCCA staffs every major U.S. Road Racing event with the solid support of 5,000 highly trained and licensed professionals.
The SCCA SPEED World Challenge Championship is North America's most intense racing series. This competition takes homologated cars onto the tracks. Cars are eligible until a particular body style has been out of production globally for five years. The series lets racing teams, aftermarket suppliers and manufacturers compete to find the elite and superior auto. Each exciting, large-scale drag-style race lasts up to 50-minutes long. Race distance and lap repetition is determined largely by the unique track configuration. Both corporate car manufacturer members and drivers earn points. The SCCA SPEED World Challenge is where you find the finest, most unparalleled cars together with world-class manufacturers. It's definitely the event you won't want to miss!
In addition to individual driver and manufacturer wins, the Jim Cook Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the driver that makes significant success in promotional activities, consistent character and sportsmanship displays during the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Championships. Another award, The Zimmermann Cup, is handed annually to a crew chief exemplifying similar passion, dedication and success shown in Jerome Zimmermann.
